Galvanized Wire Lath

  • Sizes:
    • 2 1/2' x 8' in 3.4, & 3.4 S/F sheets (18 square feet per sheet)
    • 10 pieces per bundle
  • Material: Steel
  • Purpose: Wire lath is a wire mesh that is commonly used with plaster to reinforce areas subject to impact damage (e.g. corners and door frames) or moisture damage (e.g. in bathroom areas that are plastered).   Wire lath used on the exterior for stucco or thin veneer and is typically self-furring, galvanized steel.
  • Installation:
The pattern is diamond-shaped and the wire should be installed so that it causes the ground coat to flow behind the wire and towards the wall.  The lath should feel smooth when rubbing down and rough when rubbing up.
Use galvanized fasteners to install the wire lath horizontally. It is very important to insert a fastener approximately every 6 inches, and to overlap the joints approximately 1 1/2".  Where possible, insert fasteners into the framing studs. If the wire lath flexes when pressed then insert more fasteners.
